On a Colorado Note: The Thursday Files (Lost in (Nederland) Space)

Heeeeey, what do you know.. it's Thursday.. and you know what that means!! :)

August 2012, I planned a little spur of the moment photography trip in Nederland with my husband. Packed up the jerky, dried fruit, iced tea, and my camera gear. Went to bed early, and got up even earlier the next morning. Everything was going well for our mini trip.

We stopped by Amante in Boulder for a couple of "cuppas." Everything was still going wonderfully. Love Boulder. Love Amante. It was 7am and 70+ degrees. Can't beat that.

Yah.. that's a rockslide. Happened at about 9:15 a.m.. 15 minutes after we made our way to Nederland. We had no idea. Saw a guy on a bike that informed us of the rockslide.. and that the roads were closed down in both directions. First there was the "wtf" factor, then there was the "omg" factor, then there was the "fml" factor.. and finally there was the "Nederland is not the worst place to be stuck in" factor. Granted, you can literally snap your fingers twice and have made your way through the quaint town.. but its a great place.

We spent about 21/2 hours at Buffalo Bill's Coffee and Confections.. an awesome coffee shop in a restored train car. Spoke with a local who was "working from home" on the train. Very chill atmosphere. The atmosphere made us feel a lot better about being stranded. The local told us about the Daily Camera, a Boulder paper, and an app that kept us up on what was happening with the rock slide.. although we were majorly perserving cell phone battery power.

Believe it or not, this is where we found the most amazing Indian cuisine. Ever. Kathmandu. The thought of how delicious that food was makes me want to get stuck there once again.. or not.

Here you have Nederland's finest. The officers who went above and beyond to make sure that we got back to Boulder.. which would ultimately get us back home to Denver.. because hour #7 in Nederland saw us reluctantly considering staying the night. Props to my husband for going into Nerderland PD while I took pictures (which was, after all, what we actually went there for.) We still keep in touch with them, mainly Lois in the middle:) she holds it down over there. All of their hard work finding us a way out of Nederland got us one of the most awesome (and unexpected) tours we've had thus far in Colorado.

At the end of the day, I got awesome pictures. Had aMAHzing Indian food. Made new friends.. and found that even when you're stranded in Colorado, the land and the people are so great, it can STILL remain as awesome as I've grown to know it to be. I'm Marci, and this concludes this Thursdays addition of The Thursday Files.
